In June 2017, the Bureau of Labor Statistics provided a News Release highlighting Employer Costs for Employee Compensation – March 2017. In this Release, it was noted that the Average Total Compensation in private industry was $33.11 per Employee per Hour. Of that amount, $10.06 was the cost of Benefits alone! Of the $33.11, $0.18 (.54%) is being paid by the Employer for State Unemployment Insurance. That may not seem like much – but consider if you have 20 Employees that work 40 hours per week and used this average. The amount in State Unemployment (on average) you would be paying is $7,488 per year.


Step outside of the actual tax costs and consider the administrative burden! Responding to paperwork timely to avoid penalty fees, making sure you are not being charged another Business’ costs (it does happen!), attending hearings, etc.
